A big box of goodies arrived from Australia today, posted by Shelley.  Inside was my birthday present - a gorgeous fluffy cosy pair of Ugg boots!! They almost made me sad that winter is nearly over.  Also inside were a load of new Tedhead hats made by Tamsin - there were lots of 'oohs' and 'aahs' and 'mmm's as Kate and I unpacked them! (Jason and Kate have already chosen hats for themselves!).  Here's Jase in his chosen Tedhead...

P.S. The interview we did last month for InSiteMag is now online - click here to have a read!

Things are rolling along pretty nicely in the Fairylove office this week - despite the fact that I got off to a slightly fluffy start yesterday morning after a few days in London over the weekend.  Today I have been contemplating the pros and cons of getting my hair cut.  I'm thinking short, but not really really really short.  Probably just one 'really' in front of the 'short' would convey the shortness of the hair cut i am contemplating, in relation to the length my hair currently is.  A friend told me about a salon in London for trainees (good trainees, i'm told...) where they cut your hair for free.  I think it sounds like fun.  So if you're remotely interested, watch this space for before and after photos!!

What a bizarre couple of days...felt like a bit of a time warp.  I made it to work through the snow on Thursday morning, and was then snowed-in here for 2 days!  There was just so much snow, the deepest i ever remember seeing - so satisfying to crunch through it.  Every horizontal surface was covered, the trees looked so beautiful.  We made a massive snowball in the garden, which still hasn't completely melted yet.

We had an unusually sociable weekend actually!  On Friday, Jenny our next door neighbour, had organised a charity cabaret night, which had to be called off because of the snow, so she brought round all the food she'd made, and we just ate and drank red wine in front of the huge fireplace in the wood-panelled room.  It was lovely - and we did end up venturing into the dress-up room as the night went on (Jason was first, as usual).  And on Saturday night, the dress-ups came out all over again, with the two lovely girls who came to stay for B+B.

It's snowing! And look what we spotted at the bottom of the garden this morning...some fairies making mischief!!...

(It might not play properly the first time - that's because it needs to load, so let it play through once and then play it again and it should play properly! It's worth the wait!!)

Wednesday 7th February 2007

This morning Jason said he had a job for me, and handed me a pair of wellies and the biggest fluffiest coat from the hooks in the hallway, and told me to go and look for fairies!!  I think this might have something to do with the fairly stressful and frustrating day we had yesterday...we've been having a few technical issues with the shop software (sounds so vague doesn't it, 'technical issues', but it would be utterly dull for me to go into any further detail!) so it's been a right muddle trying to sort it all out, and the shop has had to be taken offline while it's being fixed by our web guys...so anyway a walk was exactly what i needed!

So i set off across the frosty fields...it's a stunning day, icy cold and bright sunshine, not a cloud in the sky.  I didn't see any fairies but i did see some truly magical things, like leaves and twigs frozen inside lumps of ice, and huge icicles...

Just to get you in the mood for Valentine's Day...

Thursday 1nd February 2007

Well who'd have thought it, 1st of February already, and it's a beautiful day today - sun is out, it's warm, birds singing...feels more like May than February.  That's got to be good!

A couple of days ago i got up in the middle of the night, and there was a sheep snoring very loudly outside my kitchen window.  It was very odd - actually, i thought it was dying, and i stood worrying about it for a while, then thought well even if it is dying, what am i going to do about it?  So i went back to bed, and had a dream about a dead sheep.  Nice.

At lunchtime today Jason and I planted a Eucalyptus tree in the garden - i gave it to Shelley for her birthday in November, and it's been waiting patiently to be planted ever since.   A little bit of Australian nature in the back garden to make the transition from Australia to England easier for Shelley when she gets back from her trip!

'Could do better'...that's my self-assessment on the blog writing recently!!  It was my birthday this weekend, and being back in the office feels a bit...well, let's just say it's pretty cold in here, Jason hasn't appeared yet (it's nearly 11am!!!), and i feel a bit like a bike with dodgy gears...it's taking me a while (and a fair bit of effort) to get back up to speed!

I have made a list of things i need to do today, so i can break it down into canape-sized pieces (like the White Stripes song...anyone know the one i mean?!) so I can motivate myself with the sense of achievement i will feel as i cross each thing off...what can i say, i'm easily pleased!  Don't try to tell me you don't feel it too...

Photo number 5 in the 'behind-the-scenes-at-Fairylove' series is our lovely filing system, complete with mascots...

Friday 19th January 2007

Been a bit slack with the blog this week...we had a power cut yesterday, that's my excuse!  It was great actually, it meant neither Jason nor I could do any work on the computers.  So I spent the whole day making wings, and Jason re-arranged the office, and put up a mahoooossive white-board, which is part of Fairylove's 'getting more organised' plan.  It looks very official, and already has lots of lists written up on it.  So, the office is looking better than ever, and we even hung up some wings in there to brighten it up.

The workshop is filling up with half-finished wings, most surfaces are covered.   And as I said earlier in this blog, being a fairy is no laughing matter...I mean, just look what happened when i tried to re-fill the glue this morning...just one of the many perils of this dangerous job...

There are some lovely wishes coming in for our new competition - send us your wish, and check the page every few days to see what new wishes have gone up!

Yesterday I submitted a small ad to a local listings mag called Broad Sheep, advertising for a housemate to come and share the little cottage I'm renting.  (Here's a photo from the Summer:)

I'm quite excited to see what sort of people will reply...it'll be strange interviewing people...anyone got any hints for good questions to ask a potential housemate?!

Friday 12th January 2007

As you can see, yesterday I worked out how to upload video clips, which is very exciting!!  So watch this space for more...

Yesterday we were interviewed by InSite Magazine (www.insitemag.net), a Youth Magazine for Herefordshire - the article will be published online at the end of January - look out for it!

I've been making lots of fairy wings for orders this week - it's great to balance out computer stuff with a bit of time at the work bench!  Although website stuff is getting pretty exciting too, now that we can fully edit the site, get all the festival pictures in the galleries, PLUS we have just launched a very exciting new competition...click here to check it out!

Tuesday 9th January 2007

Jason and I are now home alone...well, we're without Shelley, so it's feeling quite empty in the office.  I've been dyeing tights (for wing-making) today, standing over the dye-pot with a white mask on to keep out the fumes, feeling like a cross between a scientist and a witch!  It was great fun actually, mixing the dyes and seeing all the beautiful colours come out...these are the dyed tights hanging up to dry:

Wednesday 3rd January 2007

Well, i'm back in the office after a break over Christmas and New Year.  The gas heater has run out of juice so its COLD, but it feels good to be getting stuck in again - I've been updating the photo galleries, so there are more pictures from the Summer up there now.  Looking through the photos makes me long for Summer!

We had a fantastic New Year's Eve Party at Fairy HQ, with some of our friends...the fancy dress theme was 'come as something you've always wanted to be'!  There was a ballerina, a bird, a genie, a fashion designer, a horse rider, an Elvis, a bride, and more...great costumes.

Shelley's friends Melissa and Steve are over from Australia, and have come to stay for a few days (they are in the Fairylove calendar from a few years ago...click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page, then click 'next' until you get to April, and that is them!).  Shelley flies out to Australia on Friday so she's getting prepared...how jealous am i...mostly about the sun, sea, and sand!  Ah well.  I'll just have to make do with my little fireplace (and the odd sauna at Mella and Lewis's house!) until the warmer weather arrives.

By the way, if anyone has any comments / questions / suggestions to do with this blog, email me at rosa@fairylove.com.  I'd love to hear what people think...is it too boring?? What do you want to read about?!

Wednesday 20th December 2006

Brrrr it's properly cold today.  Last night we had a bit of a Fairylove Office Christmas Party!  Well, just a few drinks and crisps really, but it was fun, and this is what we ended up looking like at the end of the night...:

Jason decided i looked like the bloke in the picture (Albert somebody, a 16th Century artist) so he decided to use a black marker (which still hasn't fully washed off) to draw me a beard.  Revenge was had with his transformation into Tutankhamun.

Shelley somehow managed to escape unscathed!

Jason told me this morning he went jogging with his face still on, and was avoiding the car headlights!

Tuesday 19th December 2006

Well, I've already failed at updating this page every day!  So don't hold me to that, but I'll try!

I'm not really used to writing a blog, i don't want it to be too much like a diary - "today i had pasta for lunch", that kind of thing, because i think that's probably pretty boring for people to read!  Jason had an idea that it should be more like a "what's-Rosa-thinking-about-today" type blog.  Although i think eventually we're all going to try and write here, so maybe you'll also get to read about what Jason and Shelley are thinking too!

What i've been thinking about today:  my future.  Well, for a while now actually.  I think i worry too much that i should already know what i want to do with my life, and where i want to be in 5 years time, but i don't.

I was talking to Mella (a friend) about it at the weekend, and she said when she was 21 (the age I am now) she was travelling in Mexico with a friend, and they were staying at someone's house.  She said her and her friend had this conversation with him where they were basically saying the same thing I'm feeling, e.g. "how will i find what i want to do with my life?", and he said to them, you're 21, you don't realise how much of your life you have ahead of you and how relatively young you still are, and you really don't need to know yet!  Also, it's not like you have to 'decide' what you're going to do - usually you will just be drawn to things depending on what you enjoy, where your interests lie, etc., and if you take these opportunities as they come, one day you'll find yourself doing something and realise you've got it!!

So that is very reassuring - it's good to be reminded of that, and not get too wound up about it!

15th December 2006

Hello!

Rosa Fairy here.

Well, after what has seemed like an age of computer hitches, I can at last update this blog!  The last entry was over a year old...shameful.

All is well at Fairy HQ - lots of exciting new projects are kicking off!

Tonight we're heading down to Bristol to have a bit of a get-together with some friends from the festival circuit - it's always nice to have a catch-up over the winter, but we don't often get round to it, so we're all quite excited!

Well, except Jason, who's being a grump this morning, but i'm sure he'll get over it.

Shelley and I have been making 12 pairs of Double Wings to have as 'house' wings - for people to wear when they come and stay, so we've been throwing lots of glitter around over the past few days, and enjoying getting stuck-in to some wing-making.  I've also been practising my frame-making - ouch sore fingers, it's hard work!

I'm aiming to update this blog daily...let's see how it goes!!
