Meet The Fairies

Hi! My name is Shelley Fairy and I've been a fairy wing maker for over 11 years.

About 12 years ago, a friend of mine, Zahia, died.  It was a life-transforming experience, and shortly afterwards I started to see fairies and angels.  I was already selling second-hand clothes and my creative wares at markets around Sydney, so when I started making Fairy Wings and doing fairy photoshoots in the forests, it seemed like an easy jump to then be selling my fairy wings and fairy photos at the markets too. I started to dress like a fairy and wear my wings everywhere.

The fairy wings I made were always one-offs, and they started selling at the markets, and I so loved making them that I just carried on.  Being a fairy fitted so well into my life, and I loved the magic and joy it brought to others.

About 4 years later, I moved up to Byron Bay, and I met Jason and we fell in love.  This saw me leaving Australia for the first time and coming to English shores, where together we made wings and tasted the English festival life.  We were so well received and people loved what we did so much that we have now made England our home!

Jason and I are no longer together as a couple, but our business relationship and friendship live on.  We are now based at fairylove HQ in the wilds of the English countryside on a fantastic property that has lots of room for the creative growth of Fairylove, and also nurtures us after our busy Summer of UK festivals.

I still love what I do, and can't really imagine being anything other than a fairy!  I love to dress folks up and watch the transformation take place.  I love to give wishes, and I still love being creative and making fairy wings.  I believe there's a fairy in everyone, even if they don't know it yet!

Our success in the UK is owing to the way in which English folk have taken us into their hearts and shown us their huge support.

Huge Fairylove,

*Hi! My name is Jason (fairy)

I got to know Shelley Fairy about seven years ago in Sydney, Australia. After a whirlwind fairy romance I moved in with her into her fairytale house in Byron Bay.

I used to think that I didn't have a creative bone in my body, but with lots of instruction and heaps of encouragement I began a new career, and joined Shelley as a fairy wing maker.

From there we started a new business together called Fairylove. We decided on that name because this is what we shared with each other and what we both wanted to share with the rest of the world.. In 2003 after travelling backwards and forwards between Oz and the UK, we decided to settle in England and we now live in the Herefordshire countryside deep in the heart of the Welsh borderlands.

With a lot of hard work Fairylove has gone from strength to strength and we are now both full-time fairies. We are both extremely grateful that we can earn our living in such a magical way, but more than this, its the desire to share the excitement and magic of what we do that keeps us moving forwards.

Watching people dress up, let go of their fears and get their wings, whether young or old, girls or boys, is an amazing experience.  Being a fairy reminds me that life is best enjoyed living in the moment and having as much fun as possible! Empowering others to do the same, to let go, to get their wings and fly is a continuous blessing.

Huge Fairylove,

Jason XXX

  Hello, I'm Rosa!

I first set eyes on the Fairylove stall in the year 2000 at the Big Green Gathering.  I was completely in awe of the wings, but was too shy to talk to the two fairy wing-makers.  Six years later, and here I am, Apprentice Fairy at Fairylove HQ!

The adventure that has brought me here has included conversations about belly buttons (mine in particular!), the beautiful gift of my first pair of wings, school projects on fairy wings, re-discovering my childhood passion for dressing up, a first visit to the fairy wing-making workshop in the depths of an English winter, learning so much through experiencing the highs (and lows!) of working on the stall at the summer festivals, getting naked under the stunning waterfall at the fairy house in Australia, learning how to make wings, moving into my own little Fairytale cottage, and most importantly of all, learning how to let go of my fears and embrace the spirit of Fairylove!

Becoming a Fairylove fairy has given me so much more confidence in myself, and through making wings for people and encouraging them to dress-up, I hope I can pass that on to them, because Fairylove is all about learning how to feel good about yourself!  We are all beautiful just as we are.  We all have the power to make positive choices about how we want to live our lives.  It’s not always easy, and sometimes it’s downright scary.  But through taking risks and living adventurously, we can spread the spirit of Fairylove far and wide!

Roy Boy Fairy

We met Roy in 2004 at a cold Christmas market in Worcester in the UK.  He immediately got wings on and started to spread his very own special version of Fairylove; giving away hundreds of wishes to the weary shoppers! At this time Roy knew he had cancer but was profoundly confident that this was not going to affect the manner or the way in which he chose to live his life.
